About Detroit Nightlife

Detroit Nightlife, Nightlife in Detroit

As the home of Motown, Detroit knows how to play music, and its nightlife scene makes that fact patently evident. Some of the city's most venerable clubs, including Baker's Keyboard Lounge and Bert's Marketplace, treat folks to heartfelt jazz, pulling in famous patrons and aficionados alike. Adding to the appeal at these places is fabulous soul food, which is served hot and delicious and makes the music that much better. Flood's also lays claim to such a recipe for success, as does Seldom Blues, which throws in incredible views from its Renaissance Center perch. Even with the prominence of jazz, other businesses make sure that variety is available, and you can easily take in shows that focus on rock, Celtic tunes, world music, and more. Say you'd prefer to kick back with friends and have a drink or two. Detroit also makes that possible, thanks to places like Royal Oak Brewery and Motor City Brewing Works, both of which offer handcrafted beers and tasty food. Restaurants with good bar scenes also prove popular. A few of the best include Gravity Bar & Grill, Cadieux Café, and Got Rocks Ultra Lounge, a more elegant option than most. Pulse Detroit is also a terrific go-to place when you're in the market for upscale alternatives, as is Bleu Room Experience, which couples dramatic interiors with great dancing and makes sure that there are plenty of people to mix and mingle with in style. If you're dedicated to one-stop nightlife shopping, head to the Majestic Theater, which not only books concerts but also offers bowling, a café, a pool hall, and other lively pursuits. -- Kelly Sigmon, Senior Editor
