DEARBORN.
It's worth the short drive to Dearborn to visit this Vietnamese restaurant, whose much-anticipated opening in April 2000 garnered a good amount of press and local interest. With its excellent cuisine, Annam has built a large and loyal following that includes everybody from martini-drinking professionals to figure-conscious vegetarians. Fresh ingredients and traditional cooking techniques harmoniously blend flavors and textures and are staples of the superb menu. Wooden floors, neutral walls, and carefully edited Asian accents enhance Annam's refined atmosphere.

For lunch, my coworker and I decided to have Pho (a common vietnamese specialty: rice noodle soup that comes with the noodles and broth. You add everything else yourself.) Normally what would take us 10 minutes to get anywhere else, it took over an hour. The prices were as ridiculous as the wait. The usual 6.50 bowl of soup was 10.00 and lacked all the ingredients authentic Pho comes with). The servers kept insisting it was on its way out and blamed the 4 cooks in the back. So to pacify us, they brought out soup spoons???
Over an hour for Soup! We got up and left because our hour for lunch was beyond over.
The ambience was overdone. The tables were too crammed together. And if you are going to dine there, bring a lint roller, the napkins and table cloth will leave so much lint on you. I did not get my food, so I am unable to comment on the quality of it, but from the menu itself...not authentic at all. Don't waste your time or money.

We are regulars at this fantastic spot which delights vegetarians as well as others. One of my experiences says it all, I leaned over to my Hong Kong born colleague and said, this food is so good. You know, when it tastes like it was cooked perfectly, slightly seared by the wok, but not over or underdone. She said, "ahh, wok-hay." American translation: "essence of the wok". Very few restaurants have mastered wok-hay in my estimation. I am never disappointed at Annam -- and, I am very hard to please.
