DEARBORN. Few would debate that this Dearborn classic serves some of the best red meat in the area. A traditional American steakhouse with cozy leather booths, soft lighting, and distinctive supper club feel, Kiernan's is family-friendly both in menu and price. The restaurant's top dishes are, of course, mouthwatering steaks; however, the menu also features a range of delicous seafood and veal dishes.

SOUTHFIELD. Southfield residents received a true gift when Gianni and Christina Belsito decided to open this delightful Italian eatery at the crossing of Franklin Road and Northwestern Highway. A meal here is an elegant affair that features fine wines, gourmet cuisine, and a professional, tuxedo-clad waitstaff. Sample such homemade pasta dishes as ravioli stuffed with eggplant or tortellacci stuffed with porcini mushrooms, black truffle, and cheese. Delicious meat and seafood alternatives include roast veal and Mediterranean-style red snapper. Mr. Gianni is also happy to set up patrons with "custom" 6-course dinners – with a little advance notice, of course.

SOUTHFIELD. Located in the exclusive Town Center area, this upscale Japanese restaurant fosters a traditional Far Eastern atmosphere. Playing a role are kimono-clad servers, tatami rooms ideal for privacy-seeking patrons, and what is purportedly Michigan's oldest sushi bar – a popular lunch spot for Southfield's trendy diners. The dinner menu features a wide range of delicious options, from sirloin teriyaki and shrimp tempura to thin-sliced duck and vegetables to a surprisingly filling sushi bento.

DEARBORN. It's worth the short drive to Dearborn to visit this Vietnamese restaurant, whose much-anticipated opening in April 2000 garnered a good amount of press and local interest. With its excellent cuisine, Annam has built a large and loyal following that includes everybody from martini-drinking professionals to figure-conscious vegetarians. Fresh ingredients and traditional cooking techniques harmoniously blend flavors and textures and are staples of the superb menu. Wooden floors, neutral walls, and carefully edited Asian accents enhance Annam's refined atmosphere.

GREEKTOWN. This Mediterranean gem, located along Greektown's primary drag, serves wonderful, traditional favorites like grilled lamb chops, moussaka, scordalia, dolmades, and baklava. The charming restaurant also boasts an admirable selection of imported beers (Mythos, anyone?) and Greek wines. Pegasus, widely regarded as one of the city's best places for Greek cuisine, tends to get packed on weekends and at lunchtime, so it's best to show up early if you don't want to wait.
