DOWNTOWN. Occupying a gracious building from the turn of the century, this accomplished restaurant mixes tradition and innovation to great effect. Its menu is also an amalgam, unifying flavors from around the globe and allowing them to transcend their usual roles. This tendency is evident at brunch, which offers a host of à la carte options. Choose from a variety of egg dishes and omelets, or go simple with fruit-studded oatmeal. Favorites include crabmeat eggs Benedict, French toast, and chorizo with scrambled eggs. Salads and sandwiches can also be had.

BEVERLY HILLS. Although it's eminently relaxed for diners, the Grill keeps servers nattily attired and offers incredible, quality-driven food – as it has for decades. Regulars adore the place, which treats everyone well and isn't afraid to accommodate special requests. The slate of daily specials gets lots of attention, and every meal is given the highest regard. Expect dishes like lobster flatbread pizza, sauteed Arctic char, and angel hair pasta with Creole Gulf shrimp at dinner. Brunch is perennially popular, thanks to fantastic mascarpone French toast, pancakes, corned beef hash, crab cakes benedict, and huevos rancheros.

DOWNTOWN. Distinguished by golden-hued walls and dark wood columns, this upscale eatery was created with the city's downtown professionals in mind. Intended to give them an early-morning venue for meeting and networking, it's also proven popular with folks of all ilks. Breakfast is served all day, and eggs Benedict variations are the runaway hit, especially the version with crab cakes. Cheese grits, DBH&G's take on the venerable chicken-and-waffles classic, stuffed French toast, and frittatas are also prime culinary terrain. Lunchtime fare is available as well.

ROYAL OAK. Within a wide-open space peppered with pendant lights, diners are treated to the seasonal cuisine that is Fiddleheads' passion. While that means that the menu is constantly involving, it also means dishes like braised lamb shank, a spice-rubbed pork chop with pomegranate jus, seared diver scallops enlivened with fennel and Kalamata olives, and a classic roasted chicken. Brunch features gourmet salads and sandwiches, along with luscious omelets, eggs and applewood-smoked bacon, potato pancakes with smoked salmon, housemade corned beef hash, and eggs benedict. Brunch is seasonal and not typically offered during the summer.

DOWNTOWN. Get ready for the prospect of communal dining, the din of conversation, and amazing food at this casual eatery. Fresh ingredients go into each dish, and the selection of soups and omelets changes regularly as proof. Vegetables from the market show up in both, and everything is perfectly prepared and delicious. Hash browns are great, the reuben sandwich is hefty, and the potato-leek soup is rich and flavorful. While lines are often standard on Saturday, weekday lunches are also fantastic and not as wait-intensive.

DOWNTOWN. From its lofty perch high above downtown Detroit, Seldom Blues offers elegant meals and top-notch jazz musicians. The sleek space sets a lovely backdrop for dining or entertainment, and wide-ranging river views help the cause as well. Local and national talents alike grace the stage, and main courses range from pastas and fish to steaks and lamb chops. The bar scene regularly gets praise, too. Plus, Sunday's jazz brunch is an excellent way to pass a leisurely midday.

BLOOMFIELD HILLS. This long, narrow, authentic deli is not only a bonanza of prepared foods but is also a pleasure to visit. Friendly service, beautiful displays, and festive holiday decorations make patrons feel right at home. Folks are also delighted by the range of delicious dishes – everything from chicken soup to roasted turkey and hot pastrami sandwiches. Tons of deli sandwiches, salads, appetizers, and desserts are also on order, not to mention extensive breakfast offerings (omelets, bagels, French toast, and more). Great for dining in or taking out.

Eclectic decor and colorful walls play off Lorraine's diverse menu, which offers everything from Jamaican jerk chicken salad and French potpie to grilled steaks and maple-cured Atlantic salmon. At breakfast, look for omelets, scrambles, quiche, crepes, waffles, and even breakfast crab cakes. Of course, bacon (or steak) and egg standards can be had as well.
