GREEKTOWN. An adventuresome Cajun and Creole menu spices things up at this popular restaurant, whose ambience is all Big Easy. Take delight in jambalaya and muffuletta sandwiches, or try tender, juicy Whiskey Ribs, which elicit high praise and demand a big appetite. Fish entrees include pecan sole, bronzed flounder, and a homestyle fried catfish filet. Come early on weekends if you plan to beat the crowds; otherwise, make your way to the bar, order a drink, and take in the scenery while you wait.

DOWNTOWN DETROIT. Detroit wouldn't be the same without the famous junk food from this downtown staple, where hotdogs, chili, and fries have been elevated to art forms. Stop in late at night, and you'll find Coney Island packed with everybody from city cops to All-American Joes to local celebs, all just looking for some good-n-greasy food and a lively atmosphere. Saddle up at one of the counter stools and order away – one day, your doctor'll forbid you to eat food like this!

GREEKTOWN. This Mediterranean gem, located along Greektown's primary drag, serves wonderful, traditional favorites like grilled lamb chops, moussaka, scordalia, dolmades, and baklava. The charming restaurant also boasts an admirable selection of imported beers (Mythos, anyone?) and Greek wines. Pegasus, widely regarded as one of the city's best places for Greek cuisine, tends to get packed on weekends and at lunchtime, so it's best to show up early if you don't want to wait.

ROYAL OAK. A popular after-hours hangout for Royal Oak's trendier crowd, Pronto! offers a stylish menu whose European influences are apparent, including several deliciously innovative lunchtime delights and made-to-order deli-style sandwiches. The popular dishes, however, are the vegetarian lasagna, roulade made with hummus and avocado, and a grilled chicken and pepper jack sandwich called "Chuck's Too Hot To Handle." The restaurant and bar are separated but still allow for easy movement. After the restaurant winds down, the bar side begins to rev up, and it's a great place to go and have a cocktail or late night appetizer.

DOWNTOWN DETROIT. This style-conscious – it has a sibling in Palm Springs – restaurant overlooks the Detroit River and the Windsor skyline. Its changing menu features creatively prepared regional dishes that are artistically presented and simply outstanding. One example of the riches you'll find is Lake Ontario perch, sautéed with capers, citrus, sweet pepper, and thyme, but temptations like rack of veal and rack of lamb also abound. A superior wine list and excellent service are also standard.

This local favorite is famous for its onsite brewpub, bakery, and dairy. A changing menu offers both vegetarian and non-vegetarian fare, all bearing that unmistakable "made from scratch" tastiness – meatloaf and fish 'n chips are excellent choices. Dessert is not to be overlooked either, thanks to offerings like the Carlotta Chocolatta Ice Cream Cheesecake. Exceptional sundaes are a safe bet too.

WAYNE STATE AREA. Boasting a long history that dates from the early decades of the 20th century, the building that now houses Union Street still features Art Deco accents and mood-setting neon. It's a place that welcomes all patrons, from those clad in suits to those sporting body piercings. While the place can get loud when busy, it's a fun scene, and the abundant food is agreeably good. Whitefish pâté, a local favorite, makes for a tasty starter, and the globe-sweeping menu includes the house meatloaf, pastas, steaks, hot sandwiches, and plenty of salads. A low-key bar scene is also part of the package. NB Sunday brunch is not served during the summer.
Looking for light and tasty dishes with a quick turn-around time? Or perhaps a power lunch to close the deal? Here, you’ll find the right setting for either! An assortment of decors from casual and sporty to sophisticated and businesslike. You may also find the option of ordering take-out food.
