DOVER. Since 1948, country cooking and family-friendly atmosphere have made this roadsider one of Dover's favorite restaurants. Stop in for breakfast, lunch or dinner – you can always count on their comfort fare to be just what you need. Get your morning started the right way with buttermilk pancakes, an apple waffle, or corned beef hash. And for dinner? Well, let's just say that no trip to Dover is complete without sampling Kirby & Holloway's long-running house special: sliced roast turkey with celery dressing and cranberry sauce. DOVER. The area's premiere place to dig into tasty south of the border fare, La Tolteca has been around long enough to see a number of competitors come and go. Such is the quality of food and service at this authentic Mexican restaurant. From enchiladas to quesadillas, all the standards are here; however, regulars will tell you that a house specialty like shrimp fajitas, steak ranchero or braised pork ribs is the way to go. And, of course, you'd be loco if you stopped in without trying one of their award-winning margaritas.

DOVER. Reservations are strongly recommended at Dover Downs' signature restaurant, European-inspired Michele's. Set in an elegant dining room just off the main lobby, it offers well-heeled patrons an intimate, romantic space wherein fine wines, outstanding fare and impeccable service hold sway. Indeed, the kitchen staff delivers a delightful stuffed veal chop, breast of free-range chicken and roasted Chilean sea bass. Naturally, saving room for dessert goes without saying since warm chocolate soufflé and sun-dried cherry bread pudding are the essence of indulgence.

DOVER. If traditional Italian fare is in order, few places hold a candle to Roma, a locally-owned eatery that's been serving homemade pastas and fine wines since founder Guiseppe Garramone set up shop in 1973. Elegant yet casual, Roma is versatile enough to suit just about any occasion, from a birthday or special event to a romantic outing. Pastas win high praise thanks to the likes of spinach ravioli, manicotti and gnocchi. Equally superb alternatives include eggplant parmigiana, chicken Marsala and lobster Genovese.

Fireplaces and white linens give the dining room a homey yet elegant feel, and the fare is nothing short of outstanding, especially if you opt for a creative fish or seafood course. Terrene offerings like pork loin and grilled steaks round out the choices.

DOVER. If you don't mind your hands getting a little sloppy, follow your nose to this Dover gem, which is sure to cure any craving for hickory-smoked meat. Casual and friendly, Where Pigs Fly never wavers when it comes to down-home creations like St. Louis-style ribs, barbecued chicken, grilled ham steak or pulled chicken and pork. If you can't decide which way to go (you won't be the first or last with that problem!), a combo or platter may be the right call. Side dishes are just as delicious, whether you select skillet-baked beans, baked sweet potatoes or broccoli salad.
