Mall of the Emirates is a huge two-level shopping structure, but its most compelling feature is an indoor ski resort where shoppers can drop their bags and pick up their skis, toboggans, snowboards – or just play in the snow, year round. Other entertainment options here include an indoor amusement park complete with roller coaster, video game arcades, simulator rides, a community theatre and arts centre, and a 14-screen cinema. A plethora of shops includes designer boutiques and international chains, plus major department stores such as Debenham's and Harvey Nichols. Even the parking lot is impressive: 6000 spots are arranged in color-coded aisles that are electronically barricaded when full, so parking your car (and finding it later) is a whole lot easier than you might expect.

Beware Al Ansari exchange
Mall of the Emirates is a great place to shop, but please stay away from Al Ansari exchange. Why?
My wife exchanged UAE dirhams for Sri Lankan rupees in preparation for a trip we took to Sri Lanka. Without checking the exchange rate previously, she mistakenly trusted Al Ansari for a fair rate. Bad move.
When she returned home I noticed the amount seemed to be off. After a bit of checking, here's what I came up with...
Yahoo Finance AED 2000 = LKR 62278.7912
XE AED 2000 = 62,294.98 LKR
Ansari Exchange AED 2000 = 50,000 LKR
Purchased at Mall of the Emirates Al Ansari on Thursday, November 26.
Even their own Web site, which we checked later that evening, said 52,268 LKR!!! Surely at least they could follow the rate they advertise on their own Web site!!! That rate is ridiculous anyway!
Be warned. Do your homework and do not trust these guys.
