The original church was founded here in the 11th century by Dúnán, the first bishop of Dublin, and Sitriuc, Viking king of Dublin. The looming, elaborate Norman church was rebuilt by Strongbow in the 12th century, but only parts of this cathedral remain, including the large crypt. Inside, view an ornate baptistery, a 15th-century brass medieval lectern, and Romanesque arches and windows. Medieval stone carvings decorate the interior, including one of Strongbow in full armor.
