The Brazen Head claims itself as Ireland's oldest pub, dating back to 1198. Another pub to feature in James Joyce's Ulysses, it has also been frequented by Jonathan Swift, Brendan Behan, Daniel O'Connell, Wolfe Tone and Michael Collins. More recent visitors include Van Morrison, Hothouse Flowers and Mary Black. The bare brick and wrought iron lanterns outside hint at the aged atmosphere inside. A courtyard where beer kegs have been turned into tables leads inside where the atmosphere has been painstakingly maintained. A small, simple, low-ceilinged pub with mixed seating and a knowledgeable, friendly bartender.
