DULUTH.
A satellite campus of the University of Minnesota, Duluth's branch traces its history to the 1890s, when a small teacher's college (Normal School at Duluth) opened on East Fifth Street. By the late 1940s, the campus had relocated to its current setting overlooking Lake Superior and changed its name to Duluth State Teachers College, finding itself under the auspices of the University of Minnesota. Today, UMD's 10,000-plus students enjoy a beautiful 220-acre campus, a diverse academic program with 75 majors, and a slew of extracurricular activities, from NCAA athletics to top-notch fine arts.
