Original construction of St. Andrew's Castle began around 1200. Unfortunately, parts of the castle were torn down in the 17th century so that the stone could be reused in the building of the harbor pier. This castle provides the finest example of siege tactics in Europe; the tunnels and "bottle dungeon" from the Protestant siege of the castle still remain and are well worth a visit.   (© 10Best)
