Edmonton may be thousands of miles from Ethiopia, but dining at Blue Nile, you'd never know it. The small space is carefully decorated with abundant authentic art and plants, giving the eyes plenty to rest on between bites of the earthy but vibrant food. Served family-style on a mesob (a woven tray), stews of chicken, lamb or beef are superbly fragrant but not too spicy, and accompanied by spinach, salad, mashed lentils and lots of injera bread. Tear off pieces of the thin injera (its flavor resembles sourdough), and use them to scoop up your food, and feel free to mix and match, the flavors blend quite well. Ethiopian coffee is a must have: the beans are roasted to order, ground and brewed, and delivered straight to your table. Now that's fresh coffee.
