Powderham is the family home of the Earl of Devon, and some of the castle dates back to the early 15th century. The castle, which received some damage during the Civil War, is situated on the banks of the River Exe and contains some exquisite pieces of antique furniture and artwork. If you feel up to it, climb to the top of the castle's Belvedere Tower and take in one of the most spectacular views in the area. Extensive garden areas also are open for your edification.
