Run by the National Trust, this woodland area offers a nice respite from the traffic and noise of the city. You'll find a network of scenic nature walks that lead along the riverside, past groves of oak and ash trees, and on to spacious meadows decorated by daffodils and other wild flowers.

In the second century, Exeter's Roman occupants built a wall around the city to defend it from northern invaders. Today, more than half of the original Roman workmanship still stands, and visitors are free to explore this ancient city and seek out this remnant of the past. The Exeter Racecourse is located in the Devon countryside, just outside of Exeter city centre. This is one of the oldest such courses in England and home of the Haldon Gold Cup.
