DOWNTOWN. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places and maintained by an organization called the Southern Memorial Association, this Confederate cemetery dates from the 1870s and offers a chilling reminder of the war that once violently divided this nation. The quiet field of white crosses is the final resting place of more than 600 soldiers who hailed from Arkansas, Lousiana, Missouri, and Texas, many of who died at battles at nearby Pea Ridge, Cane Hill, and Prairie Grove. Evergreen is within easy walking distance of the square downtown.
