8. Old Main

UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS.   Dating from the 1870s, this redbrick building is the elder statesman on the university grounds, a beautiful example of 19th century Second Empire-style architecture. The stately twin clock towers dominate the campus skyline, like watchful sentinels. Originally called the University Building, Old Main has withstood its share of hardship over the years, including a fire and termite infestations; however, after a massive renovation, the building has been restored to its original grand state and has once again assumed its mantel as the historic heart and soul of this beautiful campus.   (© 10Best)
