WEST FORK. South of Fayetteville, White Creek cuts through the Ozarks and creates the beautifully surreal scene that has become known as Devil's Den. Here, in the 30s, the state park commission created a tranquil, eight-acre lake and surrounded it with rustic cabins that offer modern conveniences. The park offers several hiking trails of varying difficulty, including the 14.5-mile Butterfield Trail, which follows an old stagecoach route past such scenic sites as Vista Point and Blackburn Creek. In addition, white water enthusiasts find that Lee Creek offers more than 10 miles of good runs. Detailed information about the park's facilities is available at the Devil's Den visitor center.
