EAST FAYETTEVILLE. Located east of downtown, this mountain offers sweeping views of the Fayetteville area from its 1700-foot peak. Until the 1920s, the peak was known as East Mountain but the city renamed it Mount Sequoyah and allowed the United Methodist Church to establish Mount Sequoyah Conference and Retreat Center on the summit. This development led to easier access to the top of the mountain.
