5. Crown Railroad Cafe

FLAGSTAFF.   An interior devoted to railroading adds a bit of local color to this cafe, which even sports a miniature train chugging around the establishment. The good-natured place has built its reputation on tasty morning fare, and folks come from all around to sample one of the 60-some omelets available. Customize yours with chiles, vegetables, steak, bacon, or some other add-in, and delight in the result. Corned beef hash also draws raves, and the potatoes and biscuits are none too shabby either. We visited many restaurants on our tour of California and Arizona in the fall of 2003, and this was one of the best. The food was great, the staff were friendly and welcoming, and they made an effort for my special diet. I only wish we had stayed longer in Flagstaff.
