FLAGSTAFF.   Housed in a stone bungalow, this chef-owned restaurant brings a touch of sophistication to Flagstaff. Dine inside by the fireplace or outside on the open-air deck, and enjoy dishes from a menu that changes seasonally to capitalize on prime ingredients. Start with champagne vinaigrette salad with grapefruit and candied pecans, and then try ancho-marinated steak with cheddar polenta, tortilla-crusted halibut with cilantro rice, cedar plank salmon, or lemon-tarragon roasted chicken.   (© 10Best)

My husband and I visited Flagstaff from Baltimore for our 25th anniversary. We chose Josephine's to have our anniversary dinner. It was incredible!!! From the first bite of the homemade multi-grain bread to the last sip of coffee, the entire meal was wonderful!! The staff very very attentive but did not hover. Spending a cold, January night is such a cosy restaurant was a perfect way to celebrate 25 years of marriage.

We were a large party and were seated in a room upstairs. Appetizers were not ordered by all but those who did order said the soup "sweet potato chipolte" and a champagne vinagarette salad were excellent. Our entrees were the Muscovy duck, ribeye, an assortment of the the entree salads, salmon with cranberry sauce, and ahi tuna. Each member of the party thought their entree was the best and insisted on everyone else trying a bite of their dinner. They were truly all excellent. I regularly order duck and can personally attest to the excellence of this one. No one had room for dessert but that didn't stop us. Extraordinary: Pecan pie made with chocolate chips and blueberries, a chocolate cake and an apple crumble of some type served with homemade maple ice cream. The only negative was that near the end of the meal the service began to lag. Not sure if it was because we were upstairs, because we were a party of 10 or because the restaurant was full. In any case, it didn't lag enough to change our mind about going back. We will. Less expensive than we thought it would be but not inexpensive.
