This square has an interesting "L" shape and has been the center of political gatherings since the Middle Ages. The area is like an outdoors museum and is named after the Palazzo della Signoria (eventually known as Palazzo Vechio). Among the many sculptures found here are the Fountain of Neptune, a replica of Michelangelo's "David," and Donatello's "Marzocco."

One of the great meeting places of Florence. All the statuary makes it seem like an out door museum, and the fountain (Neptunes) is gorgeous. The Uffizi Galleria, one of the truly great art museums of the world is right next to this piazza.
