6. Il Latini

A trip to florence would be incomplete without a trip to the Ufizi but more importantly a steak at Il Latini. As you enter you are welcomed by the head of a pig sitting atop the bar. You sit at a long table with strangers that soon become friends. Bottles of table wine line the tables and all pour from the closest bottle. You order your meat. Most couples choose the Steak for one for two (split the Steak Florentine). For me it's the steak for one for one, Hooyah! Hanging of the ends of my plate, it was as delicious as it was huge. There is no need for a menu. The waiter will bring what he and the chef thinks you should have, plate, after plate, after plate, all a delicious adventure. The dessert is no differant. At the end of it all the waiter will scratch the amount he thinks you should pay on a piece of paper. For Sara and I it was about 70 euros, a more than fair price.

Dined here 2-2006 for first time on recommendation and not disappointed. Great food and wine never stops coming. Arrive before 7:30 or 9:30 seating as a busy little place. Had veal chop and giant prime rib and both great. Next time will try Florentine steak (1 kg) for 2 people. A real treat on this trip and one of my best dining experiences ever. Dinner for 4 was €150 and worth every Euro. Just let the waiter keep bringing dish after dish. No need to check the menu.

I dined at Il Latini with my family in 1999. The experience was awesome. My 3 sons still remember the experience and share my sentiments. I returned to Il Latini, this time, with my best friend. We had a great time there. The food was absolutely great. Even though we are Deaf, the hosts had no problem accommodating us. I highly recommend Il Lataini. I will return some day!
