 EDITOR REVIEW: FORT MCMURRAY. Alberta's Athabasca oil sands, the world's richest deposit of oil, underlie Fort McMurray and are the region's economic engine. The center presents the history, science, and significance of the oil sands in daily life, providing income and jobs for many townspeople. Exhibits on mining, environmentalism, and the companies retrieving the oil are also highlighted.
