Savor a half-pound of fresh Shake & Shuck Shrimp doused with one of their gourmet "shake dressings." The restaurant is named for the main character in the works of local novelist Randy Wayne White. (from Southern Living) SANIBEL ISLAND. Locals are the first to admit that it's businesses like Doc Ford's that help make Sanibel Island such a special place. Take away the signage, and from the road, the place looks like little more than a beach home with palm trees painted on its exterior. It's inside, though – a scene marked by its crowded bar area, TVs tuned to sports, high-standing bistro tables and old school video games – that Doc Ford's true character comes to the surface. Terrific eats and a cool porch area further explain this playful joint's wide appeal.
