  1. Fort Wayne, located in the northeast corner of Indiana, lies at the point where the St. Mary's, St. Joseph and Maumee rivers converge.
  2. The Fort Wayne people are known for their inventions such as the washing machine, the refrigerator, and the first garbage disposal – originally called the "Electric Pig."
  3. The folk hero Johnny Appleseed's official name is John Chapman, he is buried in the Johnny Appleseed Park. Johnny Appleseed was a legend in America, because of his love for growing apple trees.
  4. Fort Wayne celebrates its diversity with many annual festivals. German Fest, Greek Festival, Highland Days, and Irish Fest are sure to provide hours of fun for the entire family.
  5. In 1812, Fort Wayne was considered a barbaric frontier town. Populated be many wild and woolly characters.
  6. Center School was built in 1893,one-room schoolhouse. The schoolhouse is made of local brick with a slate roof and copper ridge caps. The bell tower with its copper cap; can be heard for over a mile.
  7. With 12 students in 1820, Indiana University opened its doors in Bloomington, IN. Over the years it has grown to over ninety thousand students on eight campuses. The Fort Wayne campus was opened in 1917.
  8. . Fort Wayne has had many different nicknames within the years. It held a key position in the great Pennsylvania Railroad and was soon become known as the "Altoona of the West."
  9. In 1824, the Indiana General Assembly established Allen County. The 1830's brought the construction of the Wabash and Erie Canal in Fort Wayne. This famous canal earned Fort Wayne the nickname "Summit City" because it was the highest point above sea level along the entire canal.
  10. The city of Fort Wayne is named after General "Mad" Anthony Wayne, a military leader who established the first American fort at the three rivers.
