DOWNTOWN.   This Fort Worth landmark, located just a few minutes west of Downtown, cooks up a mean brisket and is also known for its pork ribs and chicken with all the trimmings. The rustic atmosphere comes complete with mounted hunting trophies and dark wood paneling, and you can feel comfortable sporting casual duds. Cold beer is served in frosty mugs – the perfect accompaniment to smoky BBQ. Stop by the ATM before you go because no credit cards are accepted; it's cash only.   (© 10Best)

It’s several years that I had been to Angelo’s, Fort Worth’s near west side iconic barbecue place (iconic even without the sawdust on the floor). I decided to take out some ribs, and a BBQ sandwich for our son. At around six P.M. this Thursday, 8-Jan-09, the restaurant was already pretty full, everybody seemed to have a good time. I looked at the people behind the counter: all new faces (except for the guy slicing the BBQ) …”the old guard’s gone” I said to myself. I went home with 1/2 lb of ribs and the BBQ sandwich. At my first bite into a rib, I thought: Wow …have my taste buds changed that much? I was in denial -- I didn't want to believe it -- till I finally got the guts to face the truth: The ribs, in the past so juicy, tender and mellow, not only were a bit dry, but also unbelievably salty. In hindsight, I congratulated myself for having ordered only 1/2 lb (for a moment there I had been tempted to get a full lb). My son also was not satisfied: The meat is not completely cooked through, he said. There goes the icon…now I can understand that it’s no longer Angelo’s but other BBQ restaurants in the area that have been getting the title “best BBQ in town”.

I never knew a restaurant, that's ranked so highly, could cook such atrocious "food". The sloppy joe lady in elementary cooked better. Total waste of money, save yourself the stomach ache and don't eat at Angelos.

ANGELOS IS THE BEST IN FT. WORTH I HAVE BEEN TO ALL BBQ RESTAURANTS MANY TIMES. IF YOU DON'T HAVE AN APPETITE JUST GO TO THE FRONT DOOR LOCATED NEXT TO THE SMOKER AND YOU WILL!
