4. Historiches Museum (Historical Museum)

CITY CENTER.   Founded in 1878, the Historisches Museum documents the last eight centuries of Frankfurt's history with its vast collection of artifacts and ephemera. In addition to photo, paintings and lithographs, exhibits include precious metalware and jewelry, pottery and porcelain. There are also displays designed specifically for children. Perhaps the most fascinating are the scale models of Frankfurt through history – you can see exactly what it looked like during medieval times, post-WWII, and at other notable periods. The museum's restaurant serves traditional German favorites, including Apfelwein.   (© 10Best)
