SACHSENHAUSEN. Down a cobblestoned street, in the cellar of a 150 year old tavern, apple wine is still pressed each autumn and the fruity concoction is served in traditional style with heaping platters of sausages, fried potatoes and sauerkraut . An excellent selection of regional and national beers are available as well. Come ready to take your place at one of the long tables to drink and sing along with the locals. In summer the outdoor drinking garden is open for sipping under the stars.

CITY CENTER. An international magazine once called this the best cocktail bar in Germany, and many people continue to agree. It's a narrow space, very sleek in a retro sort of way, with a beautiful curved bar, deep red walls and intimate seating. The crowd tends to mixed which makes the bar even more interesting. Music is provided by live bands on Monday, with DJs spinning the rest of the week. And yes, Luna does have an amazing cocktail menu, try the Ernest Hemingway special, a blend of white rum, grapefruit juice and maraschino.

SACHSENHAUSEN. During the summer months, the patio at this riverside bar is understandably one of the most popular spots in the city for an afternoon or evening drink. It's not just the fabulous view, it's the whole ambience that makes Strandperle such a coveted warm weather destination. When the air turns chilly, head inside, where you'll find lots of little nooks that are ideal for a romantic date or just a quiet conversation. Good selection of cocktails, beer, and wine, plus an appealing tapas menu.
