CROSS CREEK.   No trip to Gainesville is complete without a stop at Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings State Historic Site in Cross Creek. This is the 1930s home where Rawlings wrote her Pulitzer Prize winning (and tear-jerking!) work “The Yearling.” Explore the interior, which is still decorated with the original fixtures and furnishings, or walk the many natural trails that surround this beautiful homestead.
