Galena offers much to travelers, but it is known far and wide as a study of historic structures. The home of our 18th president, Ulysses S. Grant, as well as the Belvedere Mansion and the Dowling Stone House are three such residences, each of them filled with antiques, old photographs and other artifacts. The beautiful Linmar Gardens feature 3 1/2 acres of flowers, plants and waterscapes, and Lookout Tower offers spectacular views of the countryside. Hiking, fishing, camping and biking are favorite area pastimes and can be enjoyed throughout the county. Meanwhile, local spas and full service hotels provide pampering for guests in addition to offering activities like skiing and hiking.
