8. Taverne de la Madeleine

Dining at this restaurant is a relaxing experience because of its Old City location. Taverne de la Madeleine claims to be the city's eldest café and provides a spacious and friendly ambience. Plus, the food is good! The eatery offers a daily plate special, and entrées include piccata of turkey Milanese and perch filet prepared either Vevey or meunière style. The décor is almost tavern like, stone walls and shuttered windows add to the ambience, and menu items are listed on a mirror. Although the Taverne attracts a large business clientele, the establishment serves no alcohol because the local temperance league runs it. Casual business attire. Reservations recommended. Good food for the money with an nice atmosphere. Can be a little loud at times. Wonderful perch.
