For a romantic lunch date, you can't do much better than this café, which is practically hidden down a side street. Once you locate it, you'll find innovative French cuisine along with a few Italian favorites. Family-run by a Franco-Italian husband-wife team, this establishment offers an ever-changing chalkboard of selections: toasted brioche, pepper soup with ciabatta, or beef medallions in red wine. And don't even think about skipping dessert because the homemade chocolate tart is simple yet phenomenal. Reservations recommended. Business casual dress.

Mother India offers freshly prepared Indian favorites that are cooked to order. Don't come if you're in a hurry – you may have to wait, but it's worth it. On the lower floor, checked tablecloths and jarred condiments lend a homey feel. Upstairs, the fireplace blazes in winter and the furnishings are charming antiques. All of the classics are here, from aubergine pakora to ginger chicken to the best curries in town. Plenty of fish, beef, and vegetarian dishes as well as a child's menu. Business casual dress.

This well-known European pizza chain has a modern, minimal look with black leather and chrome. Pasta dishes, salads, and desserts are available, but the real draw is of course the pizza. The variety of pies makes it difficult to decide. Try the thin-crusted American Hot, with blazing chilies, or perhaps the more authentic Sicilian, with artichokes, ham, mozzarella, and garlic. A quick, inexpensive and satisfying stop for lunch. Casual dress.

Considered by many locals and critics to be the best Thai restaurant in Glasgow – and some say it is the best in Scotland. Green and red curries, chicken parcels, and weeping tiger beef are as beautiful to see as they are delicious to eat. Relax in the elegant, peaceful dining room and enjoy a tropical dessert such as bananas in coconut milk. Reservations recommended. Business casual dress.

The atmosphere here is comfortable and cozy. You can actually curl up on leather sofas in front of a large fireplace. Other unique touches include a quirky collection of stuffed animals on the walls, dark carpeting, and leather seating throughout, which lends a gentleman's club feeling. You can grab a quick lunch here or have an extravagant three-course meal. Try homemade pancakes, smoked salmon, deep-fried haddock, or roast chicken with black pudding. Check the blackboard for daily dessert specials. No reservations. Business casual dress.

The Horseshoe

The Horseshoe takes its name from its U-shaped bar. At more than 100 feet, it is the unmistakable focal point of this establishment, where the crowds also show up for the lowest-priced beers in town. But during the day, the ambience is calmer, and you can enjoy a fine pub lunch such as macaroni and cheese or Scottish pie and beans while soaking up traditional pub atmosphere. Casual dress.
