Established in 1947, the sanctuary is now home to over 1400 animals and birds, with the largest aviary in the southern hemisphere. The wild rainbow lorikeets flock in twice a day and can be fed by visitors, as can the kangaroos. Take advantage of being in Queensland, where it's legal to cuddle a koala (unlike Sydney or Melbourne). Aboriginal dancers tell stories and dance daily. Wild Island, an interactive play ground for children, and Green Challenge, 66 sets of activities high in the tree tops are recent additions to the Sanctuary, making this a fun day out for all. Nocturnal animals are best seen on the Wildnight Adventure Tours. Tours are from 5.30-9:30pm and include a BBQ buffet. Located 20 minutes south of Surfers Paradise.
