The easternmost of the Cayman Islands, Cayman Brac is a rugged, 14-square-mile island whose dramatic geography is dominated by a limestone bluff (or "brac") that crosses the island from east to west, reaching heights of some 140 feet. A favorite with divers and snorkelers, the waters around Cayman Brac serve as the final resting place for three ships, including a Cuban frigate that sank in the mid-90s. Nature lovers adore exploring the rugged shorelines as well as paying a visit to the Parrot Reserve, where they hope to get lucky and catch a glimpse of the endangered Cayman Brac parrot.   (© 10Best)

If you're planning a day trip to the Brac, be prepared to book an early flight back to civilization. Arriving fairly early in the morning we rented a car at the place next to the airport. We were given an early 2000's Honda Accord that while being adequate, is certainly nothing we were expecting. I did learn to hold the arm rest just right since the first time I exited the car it fell off onto the ground. We found Brac Reef Resort and ate at their buffet for breakfast. It was a nice place. It appeared to be awesome for divers so if we ever decide to go back it would be to dive 24/7 there. For non divers there are only 2 things to do on the island. One is walking the path at the lighthouse at the top of the bluff. Some people repel down and climb back up. If I was a mountain climber that would probably be quite a rush. The other thing is exploring the many caves on the island. Just watch your step. It's a climb or drop to get into them and the terrain is rough. Go at your own risk. If I were braver I'd have gone deeper inside a couple of them but I stayed where I could see the bats. Oh yeah, Birdwatching. That seems to be promoted on the island. There are signs on the sides of the roads with pictures of birds that can be spotted in the area. After looking all over the island for a restaurant to eat lunch at we ended up back at the Brac Reef Resort for another buffet. We begged for an earlier flight back to Grand Cayman, returned that fantastic car and bailed. Now we can honestly say, "Been there, Done that."
