DOWNTOWN. A popular lunch spot with the downtown business crowd, Blake's specializes in (as the name hints) hand-carved, oven-roasted turkey sandwiches prepared any way you like. They also serve healthy, hearty salads, soups, and hot foods – all available for both take-out and delivery. A small seating area looks out over the busy convergence of Monroe, Fountain, and Ottawa, giving the deli a bustling feel.

DOWNTOWN. A favorite of downtown business-types and Grand Rapids Press reporters (thanks to its award-winning burgers and chili), the Cottage offers a cozy, almost neighborly atmosphere that makes it an ideal place to enjoy a hot lunch with family and friends. House specialties include grilled Alaskan salmon burgers and South Pacific grilled yellow fin tuna. The attractive Art Deco bar, the oldest in Grand Rapids, is a terrific place to enjoy a happy hour cocktail or a tall mug of cold draft beer.

One of Western Michigan's notable brew pubs, GRBC has been making beer since the 1890s, when six small breweries consolidated under one banner. House brews bear colorful handles like Centennial Silver Foam, River City Red, and Lumberman Dark, and each one is crafted on the premises and served in a frosty mug or pint glass. A large bar with decorative shelves serves as the focal point, and there's also a casual dining area that's great for family outings. The menu features lots of items to accompany the beer, including cheese and sour cream-smothered potato skins, hickory-grilled steaks, heaping pasta plates, and salads. Brewery tours are available.

DOWNTOWN. Two of downtown's oldest buildings (1856 and 1885) now house one of its most well-established eateries, taking over from original occupants, Oliver Bleak's General Store and Dwight Upholstery and Tack Shop. Today, One Trick Pony attracts a diverse crowd of business people, families, students, and knowing tourists with its cozy, cottage-like atmosphere. Unique signs and pictures adorn the walls, offering a respectful nod to the many businesses that occupied the place over the years. These days, dine on pastas, hot sandwiches, creative salads, and truly excellent personal pizzas. An impressive list of micro-brewed beers is also on-hand, should you find yourself with time to spare.

ROCKFORD. This classic roadside diner, located just off I-96, has changed little in appearance since it first opened in the mid-1940s. You'll still find shiny chrome accents, neon lights, and apron-wearing waitresses. The fare is 100% American, featuring burgers, steaks, and Rosie's famous meatloaf. Additions to the menu over the years include baked lasagna, battered fish fillets, and a mac-and-cheese dinner. A small gift shop carries neon signs, Rosie's t-shirts and caps, and a variety of other neat souvenirs.

ADA. A bit of a drive but well worth it, Thornapple is the oldest member of Grand Rapids' exclusive Gilmore Collection of restaurants. It's a great place to celebrate a special occasion or enjoy a romantic, candle-lit dinner, thanks to a comfortable, subdued setting. Inside, patrons like to dine by the cozy fireplace; outside, the deck overlooks a creek. Specialties include an always-reliable daily burger, grilled pizzas, and fabulous mixed grill dishes. A well-stocked wine cellar offers plenty of appropriate vintages, and the bar is a favorite 5 o'clock destination for the neighborhood crowd.

DOWNTOWN. Located near the Amway Grand, this casual joint offers a lively setting for good food and drink. Grab a stool at the enormous, canopied central bar, where exposed shelves contain all kinds of liquor, and order a rack of famous BBQ ribs (reportedly, the best in Western Michigan) or a dozen world-class, Buffalo-style wings. If the big game is being broadcast, you can bet that it'll be on at least one of Z's 14 televisions – maybe even on the big-screen. Additional lunch options include burgers and sandwiches, but award-winning baby backs are always the best bet.
Looking for light and tasty dishes with a quick turn-around time? Or perhaps a power lunch to close the deal? Here, you’ll find the right setting for either! An assortment of decors from casual and sporty to sophisticated and businesslike. You may also find the option of ordering take-out food.
