DE PERE.   This contemporary addition to the local dining scene specializes in American fare with a flair. Featured entrees include king salmon, yellow fin tuna, and game and seafood dishes, all served with fresh, seasonal vegetables. In addition, certified Black Angus steaks are always popular, and the kitchen features a tempting selection of daily specials – how does an Iowa-raised grilled tenderloin topped with gorgonzola sound? Set away from De Pere's main business district, the restaurant is housed in an attractive tan Victorian home, whose unpretentious interior includes an inviting bar area where you can enjoy a cocktail and light jazz while your table is being made ready. Reservations are not accepted.   (© 10Best)

Not impressed...
I have to say that I was not impressed with the Black and Tan Grille. I do not know if this was because we went on a Wednesday night or if this was typical. The service was poor. Our server was also servicing a large table with another server and paid little attention to us. We ordered the Lump Crab Cake appetizer and were disappointed to find there was not a single "lump" of crab meat in it. I had expected to receive a Crab Cake with large mouth watering pieces of crab in them only to be delivered cakes with finely shredded crab where the flavor of the crab meat was overpowered by the peppers included in the cake. My wife had the "signature steak" that was overcooked and dry. The Meat itself had very little taste. Over all I would say that the presentation of the food and the sauces were very well done. However, the core of the meal, the meat, was poorly prepared and did not meet either of our expectations. We will not be back to the Black and Tan Grille.

Black and Tan is a wonderful experience. Our server was very knowledgable, personable and concerned that we have the very best experience possible. We had the Black and Tan steak and the Kona Coffee Rub Beef Tenderloin. Both were cooked to perfection, melted in the mouth, and tasted incredible. Shortly after we ordered, the chef came out and introduced himself and assured us if anything was other than expected, he would personally return and make it right. I thought that was a very nice touch. We got a second floor window table, and the view this winter night was fairly breathtaking, just adding to the terrific ambiance. Total price for two (the steaks mentioned above, 1 wine, 1 diet Pepsi and a shared Taramiso) came to $113 with a fairly generous tip, so it ain't cheap, but it was worth the premium bucks. We'll be returning to try more of their wonderful menu. Oh, and by the way, they now take reservations. Highly recommended!
