Historically and architecturally significant, this former home to state governor John Motley Morehead is registered as a National Historic Landmark. Originally a Federal style clapboard house, architect Alexander Jackson Davis designed and added to the structure in 1846, creating what is now the oldest example of Italianate architecture in the United States. The interior features numerous architectural details such as complex plasterwork, carved mantles, and pocket doors, all complemented by antiques and period details.
