England's Cornwallis defeated General Nathanael Greene on March 15, 1781, and the forests and fields of this memorial area were the stage for the conflict. The Battle of Guilford Courthouse was bloody and fierce and although the rebels lost, the maneuver weakened British forces. This eventually led to England's defeat at Yorktown. Guilford Courthouse is the site where Greene set up three battle lines. The park's visitors center showcases various displays and exhibits as well as military artifacts. Drive through the park, visiting any of the memorials at the eight stops along the way.
