8. Sassafras Southern Bistro

rude staff, food mediocre & over priced

Shrimp and Grits. That's all i need to say. So good!

This restaurant was great! No wonder it was in America's 101 Favorite Restaurants--we saw the article in CITY Magazine(NY). Food was outstanding-and lots of it, apps, entrees, desserts. Service was "personal"-made us feel like we belonged there.

I really enjoy this locally owned and managed restaurant. I eat there every time I am in town on business-which is often. No chains or franchises for me. Owners make you feel welcome upon arrival and throughout the meal. Great Southern cooking! Great specials. I love the scallops and the big ribeye! Service is personal and attentive. Good bar crowd. They remember my name!

My husband and I went to Sassafras for our 10th Anniversary. I wasn't disappointed. The hostess treated us like royalty. Our waiter, Derek, and the man who brought our dinners out couldn't have been more professional and likeable. The food was more than I had expected. I tend to be extremely critical, right down to needing cloth napkins. This place was packed -even at 9pm. I highly recommend this place. Dinner for two will easily run over $50, but you'll leave very happy. Oh, and did I mention, they picked up part of our tab?

The food was TERRIBLE! I heard it would be good - but i think this place relies on its location and not on its food. I also saw a roach and something else that I will not discuss in this review here.

I heard so many good things about Sassafras so we had dinner there before Christmas and I was extremely disappointed. The tuna appetizers was obviously frozen. The main course was not much better. This restaurant is not up to the quality standards I expected.

Great modern Southern food. Service is consistently good and the atmosphere is comfortable and eclectic.

Good Nouveau-Southern fare. I particularly enjoy just stopping in for drinks at the bar and splitting an appetizer with friends. Great after work spot.
