Nice atmosphere so so food
My parents and I used to love this restaurant 40 years ago. It was the best in town. But, despite the wonderful atmosphere, my husband and I were less than impressed by the food. My husband was given the wrong order, and had to wait (he didn't mind) for his Ribeye steak to come. But it was very fatty and he left a lot on the plate. He says he will order NY Strip next time, it's leaner. I wanted to try something different and ordered pork loin. The meat tasted bland, and could have passed for chicken. It looked plain ugly - was haphazardly cut down the length. And an au jus sauce in a little cup did nothing to improve things. Presentation of the food on the plate was totally lacking. Our group did have a lovely time, however, as we were able to sit in a side room where our group conversations would not bother any one. Different sauces, better presentation, and perhaps some forewarnings by the waiter about which cuts of meat might be leaner or fattier - would have helped. Restaurant owner or manager was excellent help with a sick patron. Our waiter very personable. We did need paper menus to look at, and were given them. Don't know if I would return. There are many other restaurants in town that offer more for the price.

Great all the way around!
We’re glad we followed a recommendation from our Ford salesman to go here for a steak dinner. The parking lot was full and we got a table for two with no wait. The service was great. The salad bar was great. The 16 ounce T-Bone was great. We had a good laugh when one of the owners asked if he can take my credit card that I had placed on the table with the bill. He was wearing a plain shirt that wasn’t tucked in and with not knowing him I asked, “Who are you?” He chuckled while the hostess picked it up and he said, “You got me.” We will definitely go there again when we pick up our new car after it arrives. BTW, I suggest you don’t give any weight to anyone’s opinion who has asked for steak sauce at this place. There’s nothing wrong with these steaks to require such a cover up. They’re nicely seasoned already.

When we want to go out to dinner, our family ALWAYS goes to the Peddler! We try to get there early so that we don't have to wait. The staff is delightful (one time, they actually had my husband's drink ready for him before he asked for it!) LOVE the salad bar - bunches & bunches of interesting and tasty items to choose from. Yummy rolls! The Filet cooked medium rare is to die for! I always get the larger size and save half of it and the HUGE potato for lunch the next day! WoW! I wish I was there right now! YUMMLY CHUMMLY!

We went to the Peddler last night for my Birthday dinner. We have never been there before but was highly recommended to us. We had a gift certificate that somebody gave us so we thought we would give it a try. We were very disappointed when we left and will not go back. The service stinks!!!!!! We didn't have much of a wait because we were the second customers there. We got seated pretty fast and the food was good but the service was lousy for the price you pay for the food you would think you would get GREAT SERVICE boy were we wrong. The waiter asked us if we got our food yet and then after waiting another 5 minutes it finally arrived. My husband wanted steak sauce which we didn't receive until his steak was cold. We wanted to get a bill so we could leave the waitress brought the bill over to us my husband try to talk to her and she walked away from him as he was talking which was very rude and that is how the night ended. The owner tried to win our service back buy offering us a free meal which my husband didn't accept because we didn't want to go back after all we been through on our first visit. My birthday dinner was very disappointing to me and will never go there ever again. We could have went to dinner at a cheaper place and had better service then we had there.

This is a wonderful restaurant if your love your steak. I've eaten steak all over the east coast and Peddler is right up there. The ribeye is awesome.

Not really charmed by the atmosphere, but blown away by the steak If you want steak and potatoes, this is the place to go. They boast about their salad bar, but I wasn’t impressed, then again you don’t go here for the salad. You go here for the meat. The steaks were phenomenal. My husband had the prime rib. It was amazing, the meat was ridiculously tender and the Anjou was delicious. I had the rib eye, which was also awesome. It was grilled perfectly and had wonderful flavor. I had the sweet potato, and my husband had the standard potato, both were baked perfectly. The wine selection is ok, but was served in thick water glasses, not great. The ambiance is rustic and warm, we sat by the fire place, which was cozy and romantic. The clientele was an interesting mix. There were people in suits, and in sweat suits. The service was great. Our server was friendly, inviting, informative and all around nice. I wish I remembered her name, because she does her job well and deserves to be recognized. All in all, the steaks were worth the trip and the price we paid for the meal. Was it a prefect dining experience? No. Were the steaks perfect? Yes.

Horrible experience. The prime-rib was tough and actually was a chuck steak with no seasoning at all. Potato was brown in the middle. Our wait time was 3 hours and the place was NOT full. Very dissappointed. Will not go back.

A local favorite. Unique rustic cabin atmosphere. Melt in your mouth beef. Incredible salad bar. Come early or be prepared for a wait... no reservations.

The Peddler Steakhouse has been serving great cuts of beef for decades. This Greenville landmark often demands long waits, but the reward is well worth your time. Freshly cut to your specifications, perfectly aged beef is the seductive draw here. My 14-ounce Prime Rib was cooked to a perfect medium rare and delivered hot and juicy to my table along side a colossal baked sweet potato and freshly baked bread. The most unusual salad bar was well stocked and exceptional. The dark, "castle like" atmosphere and excellent service makes it an ideal location for having a special occasion dinner.

After living in the Greater Greenville area for more than 6 years now, I still consider Peddler my favorite.

First went 26 years ago and have not been back - too far away from us. Last nite was wedding anniversary and we were on that side of town so gave them a try.Tiny sign so you had to know where it was. Menu on door. Seated promptly om porch area. Had prime rib -- I have traveled a lot but this was perhaps the best prime rib I have had in Greenville, and maybe ever including some major steak houses. Wife's also same. Could cut with fork, cooked perfectly, and nicely seasoned. Want to go back and try steaks. Not particularly impressed with ambience and service but OK. Their "verbal menu only" turned me off but when I said I'd go to door to check menu, they brought me one,

Have spent over $3,500 dollars at the Peddler and after a year of patronage was asked to pay for a to go box for my salad. Probably a $2.50 cost to them. Obviously, they do not appreciate their customers.

The quality and variety of top drawer gourmand restaurants in Greenville continues to grow but one of the first, The Peddler, remains one of the best. For food, ambiance, service, and value it can't be beat. Since there are no reservations come early, (5:30 PM) or plan to wait.

Great atmosphere. Wonderful steaks. The salad bar had a very big variety of items and was very tasteful. I will most definetly be back. This made my birthday very special.

This was the worst experience we have dining out in years. The food quality was very poor. RIbeye steaks had more fat than edible meat and staff did not seem to care. Very long wait to get food after finally being about to get a table. No handicap parking available. A never again for our family's special dinners.

Great decorations inside the small place. Parking is always a hassle. Steaks are only average. I ordered my filet medium and is was almost well done! The salad bar is fresh with a few unusual items (sausages, etc.), but expect to wait in line for a while.
