WOODRUFF ROAD. Swathed in warm, Tuscan tones, Travinia artfully achieves a place as one of the city's most appealing, unpretentious restaurants. Efficient servers willingly accommodate guests, who give themselves over to top-quality food and conversation as Rat Pack vocalists croon in the background. Traditional dishes include saltimbocca, scallops and shrimp pancetta, seafood pescatora and chicken piccata; grilled steaks and beautifully composed salads also find a place. Cap everything with a classic cannoli or a serving of tiramisu. More than 35 wines (Italian and Californian) are available by the glass.

HAYWOOD ROAD. If you can't imagine brunch at an Italian restaurant, reserve judgment until you see the unbelievable spread laid out by the Italian Market. The brunch buffet is vast and includes all of the breakfast basics – pancakes, waffles, eggs, sausage and French toast – along with pastas, great breads and an impressive array of desserts. No matter your craving, you'll come away sated, if not stuffed. But don't worry – you'll have plenty of company. During the week, Italian Market also draws eager (and hungry) crowds.

MAULDIN. Attended regularly by local folks, Olive Tree takes pride in its home-style Greek and Italian food. A laid-back ambience reigns, and the no-frills interior means that no one feels out of place or is uncomfortable. As a result, you'll find lots of people tucking into hearty pasta dishes, gyro platters and large, crisp salads. Portions are substantial, and even better, they're more than affordable. If you're a non-smoker, request a table in the front of the restaurant.
