A signature landmark, this historic site served as the military headquarters and major protectant of the Halifax area. Since 1749, four different forts have been built on the area, with the one that remains having been constructed in the mid-1800s. Made in a star pattern with granite walls and cobblestone courtyards, the fort is quite impressive and stands on an elevated location that offers panoramic views of the surrounding harbor. Guides costumed in period dress play instruments and re-enact parts of the daily life of this influential military site.
