Originally a private garden, the Public Gardens were first planted in 1753. However, these gardens didn't fully come into their own until 1875 when they were officially opened to the public. A Victorian treasure, the gardens showcase intricate fountains, duck ponds, benches that make intimate conversation areas, a Victorian bandstand and picturesque walking paths. Lush greens, vines, trees and flowering plants provide shady respite for weary workers, retirees and families who enjoy the park May-November when the gardens are open.
