Akin to New York's Ellis Island, Pier 21 in Halifax welcomed immigrants landing on Canada's shores between 1928 and 1971. The pier documents the personal stories of many to-be Canadians, giving visitors insight into the immigrant population. This historic pier has been reconstructed to the way it would have looked in the early 1900s. To get to the pier, try walking the route along the waterfront that takes you past the city's lovely Historic Properties. It will take about 20 minutes.
