NEWTON. Set in the former Catawba County Courthouse, this facility showcases the Catawba Valley's long history. The 1924 structure presents artifacts from early settlers, including furniture, quilts, pottery, farming equipment, and military uniforms that range as far back as the Revolutionary War. A racecar from the 1930s also gives a nod to the region's fondness for auto racing. On display too are a recreated law office, jail cell, and other room settings that date to the early 20th century.
