8. Western Piedmont Symphony

DOWNTOWN.   Classical music takes the forefront when this respected symphony steps onto the stage. Since it was created in 1964, the organization has graced the Unifour area with works by Brahms, Wagner, Tchaikovsky, and a host of equals. Guest artists are often highlighted, along with the assembled regulars, and a healthy slate of events includes the Masterworks series and special performances for children and the holidays. A strong educational component also colors the symphony, which frequently plays for school groups. WPS performs primarily at First Baptist Church; its offices can be found at the SALT Block.   (© 10Best)

For a small community (the UniFour), a great symphony. Also, the string quartet residency provides world class quartet / chamber music
