The Buzz -- For more than 100 years, the cozy town of Newton has been honoring its veterans. Early on, the event paid tribute to Civil War soldiers, but in later years, its intent has expanded to include veterans of all conflicts. Spread across several days, the celebration features reenactment groups, bands, and a well-attended vintage car show. The highlight of the event is a parade, which always begins at 5pm on Thursday. It winds through the town's streets, showcasing local civic groups, schools, and beauty queens. A great time for the entire family.

"If you have not attended this parade at the reunion, you are missing the event of the year. I've lived in NC for 10 years and just heard about this event. My husband and I went to photography the parade and we were blown away. Be prepared for an hour and a half at least for over 100 floats, bands, cheerleaders, politicians, kids, veterans, and lots of food! Its awesome, make this one fun event not to miss!"
