NEW TERRITORIES.   This hilltop pagoda is said to house 12,800 Buddhas within its walls. To reach the temple, you must ascend a breathtaking 500 steps, but once you make it, you can see the Buddhas, each striking a different pose. Also look for the mummy (a holy man in his golden tomb) and the evocative views of Amah Rock.   (© 10Best)

I thought I had seen a lot of Hong Kong, but this temple was different from any others I'd seen. The steps up with the life-sized golden Buddha was fascinating, as were the various plazas and buildings on top. Even the abandoned temple where the cave in encroached was interesting to see. Well worth the 500 steps!
