7. Ala Moana Beach Park and Magic Island

 

Calm waters and good swimming also bring locals to Ala Moana Beach.

ALA MOANA.   Ala Moana Beach Park sprawls across 100 acres in the midst of Honolulu, while Magic Island comprises about 30 acres of the park. Both areas are immensely popular, and folks frequently take advantage of the beaches, picnic areas, and jogging and biking paths. Facilities include showers, restrooms, and concession kiosks. The park also offers great views of the area and is often crowded with families, locals, and tourists as a result. On weekends, it may be difficult to find parking.   (© 10Best)

Enter the park just west of Waikiki at Atkinson Drive and Ala Moana Boulevard to enjoy a 1.75-mile loop path. If you overheat, cool off at the park's excellent beach. (from Sunset)

Other than people-watching, Ala Moana Beach Park offers more than its famous neighbour Waikiki Beach. Acres of parkland and pathways, it's a great place to go for a run/rollerblade or have a picnic. There's a quiet lagoon at the tip of Magic Island, and a long stretch of open beach as well. You can watch the fishermen and boats and canoes set out from the Ala Wai Yacht Club. The tip of Magic Island is also one of the best places in Waikiki to watch the sunset, unobstructed views with the waves crashing at your feet.
