6. 'Iolani Palace

Iolani Palace is not a place where one goes to seek extreme adventure. However, it is a beautiful palace with gorgeous koa banisters and an amazing sense of history. At one point in time, it was the most modern of buildings. Iolani Palace had electricity and telephones when most places on the American mainland did not. This was the showpiece of the Hawaiian monarchy. It was meant to embody all that the chiefly class entailed. Queen Liliuokalani was kept imprisoned inside one of the upstairs rooms. Sadly, it was gutted of most of its treasures after the overthrow of the monarchy in 1893. When I visited the palace, I felt an unmistakable presence inside one of the downstairs sitting rooms. It isn't a stretch of the imagination to think that the spirits of those that love this place, are still present. In essence, this is a most sacred Hawaiian place. If you go with the proper heart and state of mind, you will be moved by what you find in this building. It is one of the last remaining remnants of Hawaii's fabled monarchy period.
